Four women walking along a wide path

Kindness first mindset sets Lisa Prescott apart

20 April 2023

Lisa Prescott is passionate about supporting people, teams, and organisations to reach their full potential and as the Head of Culture and Organisational Development at eHealth NSW, that passion has become a day-to-day focus.

Lisa has played a pivotal role in enhancing the workforce experience for employees across eHealth NSW, with successes including a gender equality action plan and development of the organisation’s first International Women’s Day event.

“I think it’s so important to create what I like to call, positive ripples,” says Lisa.

“Working with a mindset of approaching all interactions with kindness first not only contributes strongly towards building a positive workplace culture but also makes everyone feel good and happy at work.”

Guiding others

Originally from Liverpool in England, Lisa began her career in workforce and organisational development in 2010 with NSW Health agency HealthShare, before making the switch to eHealth NSW in 2018.

With a Master of Political Science and qualifications in coaching, executive leadership, and positive psychology, she feels fortunate to be in such a unique role where she can help guide people.

“The last few years particularly has shown the importance of showing compassion, particularly when you go into any sort of interactions,” Lisa says.

“It is about kindness first, being curious and highlighting the positive and amazing contributions people are making every day at work.”

Lisa wins first-of-its-kind award

In recognition of her achievements, Lisa was the inaugural recipient of the Chief Executive Award for Workplace Kindness at the 2022 eHealth NSW Awards.

“That’s the only time in my life I have ever been lost for words,” she says.

Having initially worked solo at eHealth NSW, Lisa has played a key role in growing the People and Culture Directorate and the Culture and Organisational Development team, working towards organisational development solutions that focus on cultural growth and the enhancement of people’s skills.

“It means seeing the person before anything else. Seeing their gifts, talents, and strengths, and being available for people to help nurture that.”

Elevating the human experience

To elevate the human experience for people across eHealth NSW, Lisa developed guides for new ways of working during COVID, and organised support and resources to maintain staff happiness. These actions have since led to the development of a wellbeing calendar.

Like Lisa and her kindness first mindset, NSW Health counts elevating the human experience through compassion as a fundamental pillar of care. The state’s biggest employer has developed its first strategy focused on delivering an exceptional patient experience and making that experience an empowering one for everyone involved in receiving and providing care.

Working with patients, their families and carers, volunteers, and staff from across NSW, an Action Guide - Elevating the Human Experience – Our guide to action for patient, family, carer and caregiver experiences - has been developed.
