My Health Learning (MHL)

My Health Learning is NSW Health’s online, state-wide learning system. It provides staff with access to mandatory training and professional development.

The Challenge

Every hospital had its own training team providing staff with training common to all NSW Health hospitals. An opportunity to consolidate efforts and ensure training consistency was identified.

Moreover, each hospital used different methods to deliver and measure training many of which were manual and paper-based. As a result, there was no way of targeting staff with training based on their role, tracking their learning across hospitals or producing state-wide reporting.

The Plan

In response, eHealth NSW developed My Health Learning (MHL), a single, state-wide learning system. MHL was integrated with StaffLink, NSW Health’s Human Resources and Payroll system to ensure it could draw on current staffing information.

Implemented statewide between 2013 and 2015, it is used by all hospitals, as well as by the agencies which provide specialist health care and support services.

Training content is developed by the NSW Health Education and Training Institute (HETI). eHealth NSW provides content for essential cyber security education.

The Outcome

MHL has standardised the delivery of education and the assessment of staff knowledge and skills across NSW Health.

Being integrated with StaffLink, MHL can target staff online with training specifically required for their role and record their learning throughout their NSW Health career.

Being online, MHL provides an integrated learning solution which staff can access anytime, anywhere. It serves up to staff the training specific to their role, provides them with automated training reminders, enables them to track their progress in real-time and generates certification.

For hospitals and NSW Health, MHL provides data and analytics for improved decision making.
