The NSW Health system makes up 6.6% of our state’s greenhouse gas emissions. Digital health services that we deliver play an important role in that footprint.
At eHealth NSW, we are committed to lowering our own emissions while supporting sustainability across the broader NSW Health system.
Building a more sustainable digital health system
The start of a new year is a chance to reflect on how we work and look for better ways to operate. Strengthening sustainable practices across our digital services is one of the most meaningful ways we can contribute in 2026 and beyond.
By making simple, practical choices that align with our organisational goals, we can reduce emissions, support NSW Health’s net zero ambitions and build a greener, more resilient healthcare system for the people of NSW, now and into the future.
Sustainability starts with small everyday actions. Here’s six simple steps you can take to help make a difference:
- Use the right bin to boost recycling and keep materials out of landfill.
- Print only when necessary. Go digital first.
- Switch off lights and equipment when not in use.
- Return unused or outdated tech for reuse or responsible recycling.
- Choose reusable over single-use.
- Walk, ride or take public transport where possible.
Sustainability in action
Hear from our Sustainability Champion, William Chen, Director of Finance, on what sustainability means at eHealth NSW and how we are embedding it into the way we work.
William works alongside the eHealth NSW Environmental Sustainability Working Group to drive practical change and ensure sustainability remains central to our operations and decision-making.
