A new statewide initiative supporting developers is GitHealth Copilot, an AI‑powered coding assistant that offers real‑time suggestions in the code editor to help speed up and streamline development.
How GitHealth Copilot works
GitHealth Copilot supports developers as they work by suggesting code, functions, explanations and improvements in real time, helping reduce repetitive tasks and streamline development. By offering contextual assistance in the code editor, it also supports more consistent, maintainable code and gives developers more time to focus on complex, high‑value work.
The statewide rollout of GitHealth Copilot is part of NSW Health’s broader digital capability uplift, supporting faster, more efficient and modern software development practices. It also gives developers access to the tools, training and support needed to build skills, confidence and capability across the workforce.
The verdict from NSW Health staff so far
Results from a preliminary pilot involving 38 participants from across various NSW Health teams showed GitHealth Copilot delivered strong productivity gains.
On average, staff saved around 10 hours of coding time each week, giving them more time to focus on other priorities.

The pilot also highlighted the tool’s value in building capability, with one participant noting that ‘developers can learn faster - whether it’s prompting, code explanation, or understanding unfamiliar components.’
