Meet Steven Chung. He is one of 19 successful students welcomed to the 2024 eHealth NSW Intern cohort.
The intern program is now in its 8th year and has given 150 university students, like Steven, 12 months of valuable, hands-on experience across the organisation to help them kickstart their careers.
Steven was motivated to apply as he wanted to gain meaningful work experience while finishing his Information Systems degree at the University of NSW (UNSW).
What excites you about eHealth NSW?
“The eHealth NSW Internship appealed to me because the health system affects us all and is something we’ve all experienced. Learning about eHealth NSW’s programs, such as Telestroke, has been eye-opening because you get to see first-hand the impact they can have,” he said.
Steven believes this universal experience and the ability to contribute to something greater drives job satisfaction.
Early in his internship, Steven enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to meet like-minded people, both in his cohort and wider team. He is also benefiting from the support of his mentor, buddy and plan aimed at supporting his ongoing development.
When asked where he sees himself in 5 years, Steven said he would consider a career at eHealth NSW after the internship.
Hearing from our alumni
Maxie Archer, an eHealth NSW’s Internship alumni from 2019, decided to stay on at eHealth after graduation, and is an example of the value of the program and career opportunities that eHealth NSW offers to interns and beyond.
Maxie started as an intern in the Services Transitions team, went on to gain rich experience in business analysis and service management design and has recently stepped into a leadership position in the Service Enablement team.
She attributes her career success to the supportive environment and supportive leaders she has met over the years, still maintaining these relationships to this day.
“From day one, I was lucky to have some great mentors in the team. I got to see a lot of aspects of IT transformation during the internship and seeing the multi-disciplinary teams first-hand opened my eyes to the possibilities in IT early. There are so many opportunities in IT that aren’t just technically focussed. I’ve always felt welcome and comfortable at eHealth NSW, we sit in a diverse team of ages and backgrounds which opens the opportunity to broaden the way we look at problems and solutions,” Maxie said.
eHealth NSW prides itself on its diverse community of experts in their field. Interns receive the opportunity to network with and learn from eHealth NSW colleagues in an open, supportive and collaborative environment.
As part of our commitment to diversity, this year 4 of our 19 interns have joined us in targeted positions, open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants and people with a disability.
