This NAIDOC Week marks one year since the launch of the eHealth NSW Aboriginal Employment Strategy 2024–2031. To celebrate this milestone, eHealth NSW reflects on what’s been achieved so far and reaffirms its commitment to the journey ahead.
What is the Aboriginal Employment Strategy?
Designed to elevate the voices and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders across eHealth NSW, the strategy sets out our commitment to work in active partnership with Aboriginal employees and communities in shaping culturally informed digital health solutions.
Over the past year, this vision has translated into meaningful action. From employing Aboriginal trainees to increasing Aboriginal workforce representation by23%, eHealth NSW continues to build a strong, inclusive pipeline of talent and embed culturally safe, equitable recruitment practices across the organisation.

The strategy in action
From promise to practice, this NAIDOC Week provides an opportunity to reflect on the past 12 months since the launch of the Aboriginal Employment Strategy and the steps taken to grow eHealth NSW’s Aboriginal cultural competencies beyond employment targets.
The Aboriginal Connection eHealth NSW (ACE) network, in close collaboration with eHealth NSW Aboriginal Employment Strategy Project Working Group, proudlylaunched the Aboriginal Employment Strategy 2024-2031 in July 2024. This collaboration ensured that Aboriginal voices and perspectives were central to the development of the strategy and its supporting resources from the beginning.
Together, they guided the development of practical resources and tools aimed at making a meaningful difference to the workplace experiences of Aboriginal employees at eHealth NSW. This included:
- Developing an Aboriginal-specific Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to ensure culturally appropriate and inclusive access to information for Aboriginal employees and their families.
- Creating an Aboriginal Career Mapping Guide to help identify skills gaps and provide practical career development tools.
- Implementing anAboriginal exit interview process to capture feedback and insights from Aboriginal staff.
These tools aim to address gaps Aboriginal staff face when seeking culturally appropriate support and navigating career development.
Today, eHealth NSW is proud to witness meaningful progress, not only in growing its workforce, but in creating purposeful pathways that empower Aboriginal employees to shape our digital health solutions. By contributing cultural knowledge and lived experience, they enrich our work and help deliver more inclusive, community-informed care.
