In recognition of National Close the Gap Day, HealthShare NSW and eHealth NSW Chief Executives talk about the progress the two organisations are making to Close the Gap in health and education outcomes for Indigenous Australians.

“It is very important that we reflect on the significant differences that still exist in the health and social outcomes between Aboriginal and other Australians. It is an ongoing effort and commitment that we have to make to narrow and close the gap”, says Dr Zoran Bolevich, eHealth NSW Chief Executive.

Since the launch of the HealthShare NSW and eHealth NSW Aboriginal Employment Strategy in July 2014 HealthShare NSW's Aboriginal workforce has grown from 1.8% to 3.3%, exceeding the 2.6% benchmark set by the NSW State government.

“I am very happy with this result but it does not mean we stop. We must continue to increase the representation of Indigenous Australians in our organisations. I take this very personally and will do everything I can to support this”, said Dan Hunter, HealthShare NSW Chief Executive.

eHealth NSW's Aboriginal workforce is currently 1.3% but this is expected to increase through an Aboriginal IT Cadetship program being rolled out during 2016.
